Day 16 — Joy is Not a Luxury. It’s a Spiritual Practice.
Personal Story:
One thing I’ve learned is misery is contagious.
It doesn’t just want company.
It wants to infect you, not just sit next to you.
Laughing and smiling at one point in my life felt like being stabbed in the back.
As if any joy was a punishment.
And because I am highly dramatic, you can imagine me, stone faced, sitting in the dark, with resting B* face at anyone who even thought to smile.
When someone told me to smile, which they often felt the need to, I’d frown even harder with the look of death on my face.
The audacity to insert their opinions on what my face should do.
Smile?
Joy?
Access denied.
Don’t you see I’m in my victim era of suffering?
Joy needs a permission slip.
A doctor’s note, with a full blown diagnose as to why it was better than my pity party about how hard life was.
I couldn’t stand myself and one day I woke up and said “enough.”
You have two choices.
Live or die.
There is no in between.
I learned:
You’re allowed to be sad and still laugh in a moment.
You’re allowed to be angry at life and still see beauty in it.
It makes us human.
Just try another way.
The only way to guarantee a new result is to try something different.
And when I did, my life changed.
Now, I can’t imagine Not living from Joy & Laughter.
Even if I watch comedy to reset.
Scripture:
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
Some Inspiration:
Joy is not a reward for pain.
It’s a way through it.
You are allowed to giggle while grieving.
To dance away the pain.
Joy doesn’t wait for perfection — it partners with your faith.
Your Move:
Find something today that makes you laugh.
Intentionally.
Joy on purpose.
Let your spirit indulge in something sweet.
